Come bring your families to enjoy a free concert of instrumental music by the Lewis County Community Band on Tuesday, June 7th at Corbet Theatre. The program will include "Hopak" from "The Fair at Sorochinsk" by Modest Moussorgsky, the first movement from Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, and "The Immovable Do" by Percy Grainger. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm. The Lewis County Community Band has been directed by Louie Blaser and Karl Scarborough since Fall Quarter of 2007. Louie Blaser teaches band for Centralia School District and Karl Scarborough teaches band and choir for Winlock School District. The band is comprised of almost 50 local wind and percussion musicians from Lewis, Thurston, Pacific, and Cowlitz counties. Though geared toward adult musicians, the band is also open to college and high school musicians. Additionally, students can enroll in the band for college credits. Typically, the band averages 5 flutes, 1 oboe, 9 clarinets, 1 bass clarinet, 2 alto saxes, 1 tenor sax, 1 bassoon, 6 trumpets, 4 French horns, 6 trombones, 2 baritones, 3 tubas, 6 percussionists.
