Centralia College is proud to present “Hoorah: Music of the Civil War”, with a lecture by award-winning historian, Dr. Robert E. May. The free concert and lecture will be at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 15th in Corbet Theatre. Music from the Civil War period will be performed by the Centralia College Choir and accompanied by Lesley O’Donel (piccolo), Kathleen Scarborough (violin), Daven Tillinghast (guitar), and Kyler Walker (percussion). Dr. Beth May has arranged music from the Civil War period especially for the Choir. In addition, there will be a free lecture by Dr. Beth May’s father, Dr. Robert E. May, Emeritus professor at Purdue University. Dr. Robert May is the author of: • Manifest Destiny’s Underworld: Filibustering in Antebellum America, 2002 (Choice Outstanding Academic Title, 2003) • John A. Quitman: Old South Crusader (McLemore Prize, 1986) • The Southern Dream of a Caribbean Empire • Contributor articles to professional journals (Willie D. Halsell prize, Mississippi History Society, 1989)
